Freeport Area School Board wants more prices before acting on building work
The Freeport Area School Board is delaying nine capital projects until specific costs can be determined.
The school board Thursday was prepared to pass a laundry list of items to be taken care of this summer.
The administration submitted a list of estimated costs.
They amount to about $520,000 in all.
“These are things we feel that need to be done,” Superintendent Ian Magness said. “Capital improvements can cross fiscal years, especially when we can do work in the summer when students are out.”
But several school board members want Business Manager Ryan Manzer to pursue three quotes for each project before they will consider approving the work.
“We need to get three quotes,” school Director Daniel Lucovich said. “That’s what the board policy is.”
The projects are:
• At the senior high: install air conditioning in the Fab area where silk-screen printing takes place; upgrade the band wing; upgrade the library and replace 10 science-wing doors;
• At Buffalo Elementary School: upgrade the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; replace carpeting in the pod areas; replace brick and stone at student entrances;
• Replace asphalt shingles at the maintenance building.
• Replace a tractor/loader for school district use.
