Carrie Irvine will serve just over three weeks on Freeport Council before her term ends.

She was appointed by elected members of the council on Dec. 9 to fill a vacant seat on the seven-member body for the remainder of the year.

That seat was left open by the early-November departure of Lori Miller, who resigned from council for “personal reasons.”

In its January reorganization meeting, council is likely to appoint a replacement for the rest of Miller’s term, which is set to expire in 2027.

Irvine won’t have much on her plate for the remainder of 2025, but the new councilwoman will have a say in approving Freeport’s budget.

Council is set to vote on the budget, which keeps property taxes flat, on Monday.
