Freeport property owners won’t be paying more in taxes this year.

Borough council passed the 2021 budget, which includes a general fund of around $550,000 and no tax increase.

The tax rate will remain at 13 mills. Freeport residents haven’t seen a tax hike since around 2008, Treasurer Rich Hill said.

The police department and public works are Freeport’s largest expenses, Hill said.

“That’s our basic two things we do here,” he said. “That’s what we spend our money on for our residents.”

The budget is similar to their recent budgets, with no major spending increases or projects.

“The only big thing going on is a sewer project, but that’s not going to be funded through the regular budget,” Hill said. “That’s going to be funded through loans or grants, but it’s not effecting the current budget at this time.”

The covid-19 pandemic hasn’t had any significant impact on the borough’s budget, he added.
