Allegheny Township’s paving projects for this summer are temporarily on hold.

Shawn Kuhn, public works director, told supervisors that a large drain pipe along Victoria Way, just off Melwood Road, needs to be replaced. After that work is done, remaining budgeted money will determine the direction of summer road projects.

The pipe replacement is expected to cost about $15,000. The public works budget is about $1 million this year.

Kuhn said he will have a paving list for the township on March 11. Most of the paving work will be seal-coating, and Kuhn said he wants to get a price locked down as soon as possible.

Off the list for now is School Road. Township officials said new natural gas lines are scheduled to be installed on the road this year.

Supervisors Kathy Starr and Ren Steele voted to advertise for the summer road projects. Supervisor Joe Ferguson abstained, saying he wanted more information.

The township also will be buying two dump trucks for the public works department. The trucks will be bought for $390,000 through the state’s CoStars purchasing program. Delivery is expected in October.

Starr and Steele voted to approve the purchase and Ferguson dissented, saying he would like more discussion and that he didn’t get notice of the purchase until the night of the meeting.
