Geo-Solutions, a specialty earthwork contractor currently located in New Kensington, said it will move into a multistory office building behind the Plum School District’s bus garage for its headquarters by the end of the year.

By December, New Kensington-based construction services company Geo-Solutions will conduct its business in Plum, according to marketing and sales specialist Reed Rayburg.

The company plans to move into a multistory office building behind Plum School District’s bus garage while it develops a storage and maintenance facility on adjacent land at 1450 Greensburg Road — the former location of Golf Oasis, Rayburg said.

Plum Council approved the merger of the office and proposed facility parcels this month.

The proposals for Geo-Solutions’ storage and maintenance facilities initially were tabled by the borough’s planning commission because the company had increased the planned size of its storage yard, according to Plum Director of Community Development Sam Prokopik.

But at its most recent meeting, the commission recommended that council approve the final plan for the now-merged lot.

Geo-Solutions made the modifications, Rayburg said, to “fit its current business needs.”

If borough council grants approval for the company’s plan at its next meeting, Rayburg said, Geo-Solutions hopes to begin construction this fall after acquiring building permits. The company initially sought to begin construction this spring.

The project would see a large steel building, an outdoor storage yard, a paved access road and parking areas built on about 3 acres. The area is zoned highway commercial.

The building would house workspace for equipment maintenance, administrative offices and storage for parts and tools.

Landscaping and screening would be used to reduce visual and noise impacts on neighboring properties. While the bus garage sits on one side of the property, there are homes are on the other side.

Currently headquartered in New Kensington, Geo-Solutions operates several offices throughout the United States and Canada. It specializes in soil and groundwater problems.
