Giant Eagle and local domestic violence programs have teamed up to reach victims during covid-19 pandemic.

Law enforcement agencies in the U.S. and around the world have cited an increase in domestic abuse incidents the past few months.

Giant Eagle officials announced Thursday they have postcards in 42 locations in Allegheny County with contact information for the Alle-Kiski Area HOPE Center, the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh and Crisis Center North.

More than 12,600 postcards were made available at the end of every register in each store.

Submitted Postcards with information about domestic violence programs were recently made available at Giant Eagle supermarkets in Allegheny County.

“Now more than ever, we take the responsibility to meet the needs of our communities very seriously,” said Dan Donovan, Giant Eagle spokesman. “As a business deemed essential during the pandemic, we recognize that our supermarkets can play a vital role in making important information available to those in need of support.”

Nicole Molinaro, president/CEO of Women’s Center & Shelter, said raising awareness of these programs and options for victims is invaluable, especially during the pandemic.

Our hope is that by making this essential information more widely available, we can provide those who need help the ability to reach out sooner,” Molinaro said.
