Gilpin resident Jean Stull has thrown her hat into the ring for Armstrong County treasurer.

Stull, a Democrat, announced she will run in the primary election on May 21 for the four-year position.

Would-be candidates cannot start collecting signatures on their nomination petitions until Tuesday, Feb. 19, according to Jennifer Bellas, director of elections for Armstrong County.

A minimum of 100 signatures is necessary to file a petition and be placed on the ballot. Candidates can file their petitions between Tuesday and March 12, Bellas said.

Two Republicans have announced their intention to run for county treasurer: Wendy Edmonds and incumbent Treasurer Amanda Hiles, according to Bellas.

Stull is a Leechburg-based certified public accountant (CPA) and a former board member in Leechburg Area School District. During her tenure, she served as board vice present and president. Stull also served on the ARIN Intermediate Unit Board of Directors and as treasurer of the Lenape Technical School Board of Directors.

Stull is a 1987 graduate of Leechburg Area High School and a 1991 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is a lifelong resident of Gilpin, where she lives with her son, Charles. Stull is a member of Hebron Lutheran Church in Leechburg and has served as its treasurer for more than 20 years.
