Gilpin man charged with breaking into woman's home, threatening to kill her
A man accused of breaking into a Gilpin woman’s home last week told police after his arrest that he would kill the woman after being released, and he also threatened the woman in a series of text messages, according to a criminal complaint.
Jamison Eugene Rush, 43, of Gilpin, faces charges of burglary, criminal mischief, loitering and prowling at night and harassment, online court records show. He remained in Armstrong County Prison on Monday after failing to post $20,000 bond.
The woman reported the incident to Gilpin police on Aug. 11. She told an officer that someone had broken into her home in the 300 block of Route 66 between 1 and 5 a.m., the complaint said.
She also told the officer that Rush was responsible, the complaint said. She reported that she and Rush had “talked and dated” for a few weeks, but it didn’t work out.
The complaint said Rush had sent the woman text messages saying he had been at her home at the time of the burglary, and he had broken in to get his belongings. The officer’s search of the woman’s home found damage that lined up with Rush’s text messages to the woman, according to the complaint.
When the woman went to the Gilpin police station on Aug. 12 to provide a written statement, the complaint said the officer saw threatening text messages from Rush on her phone.
The officer arrested Rush later that day.
As he was being taken to jail, he allegedly threatened the woman’s life and told the officer about a television he had taken from the home and destroyed in a garden behind the home.
A preliminary hearing for Rush is scheduled for Aug. 26 before District Judge James Andring in Leechburg. Online court records do not list an attorney for him.
