Go ethnic for Easter with pysanky egg demo and pirohi at St. Vlad’s in Arnold
A demonstration of creating the mind-blowing ornate and detailed Ukrainian painted Easter eggs known as pysanky will be featured along with a pierogies and stuffed cabbage dinner at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arnold at 4 p.m. on April 4.
The dinner includes St. Vlad’s pierogies, homemade stuffed cabbage, cucumber dill salad and nut roll plus other desserts. Attendee can make a $10 donation for the demonstration and dinner. An RSVP is required by March 28 via email, stvladsarnold@gmail.com, or call 724-681 3383.
Nationally renowned pysanky artist Ginette Nalevanko Simpson will demonstrate the creation of the specialty painted eggs and will sell them as well.
“Guests will come away with a great education on the history and the traditions and also the process of making pysanky,” said Julie Martin, a spokeswoman for St. Vlad’s.
Egg designs are drawn with melted wax using a tool called a kistka. They are then colored with layers of dyes, according to Martin. Simpson will demonstrate new and innovative methods including using soap and bleach.
Simpson will provide information on where to buy tools and supplies.
St. Vlad’s is located at 1600 Kenneth Ave, Arnold, Pa., 15068.
