Grant to help handicapped access to Laube Hall in Freeport
A $240,000 state grant will add handicapped parking at Laube Hall in Freeport as well as improve the parking lot.
The grant was announced Tuesday.
When the hall was built in the 1960s it didn’t have handicap access.
“It’s quite a distance from the parking lot to the front doors,” said Dan Montgomery, who is vice president of the steering committee.
“We’re looking at using the loading dock area,” he said.
The hall is inside Freeport Community Park at 115 Community Park Road.
The grant also will be used to repave part of the parking lot to better accommodate 200 to 300 vehicles. Up-to-date lighting will be added.
The rest of the parking area will get a tar-and-chip treatment, Montgomery said.
The local steering group already has the required 15 percent in matching funds, he said.
XTO Energy is also in conversations with the group to complete an updated walkway, Montgomery said.
