A 24-year-old Greensburg man has been accused of sexually assaulting a child in New Kensington starting when he was 17 years old and the child was 9, according to investigators.
Nicholas Thomas Sales, 24, of the 400 block of South Urania Avenue was charged with two felony counts each of aggravated assault of a child under 13 and indecent assault of a child under 13.
Sales was released from custody on a $40,000 unsecured bond and ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on March 16, according to court records.
A New Kensington police detective wrote in a criminal complaint charging Sales that the child was questioned in June with their mother present. The detective halted the interview when the child began revealing details about the assaults so that a forensic interview could be set up, the complaint said.
During an Oct. 7 interview with a forensic investigator, the child said Sales told them not to tell anyone after the first assault took place, according to the complaint.
The second assault took place about a year later, investigators said.
The child told the investigator they were “mad” at Sales because both assaults were painful and resulted in bleeding, the complaint said.
