Harmar fills vacancy on board of supervisors
Harmar Supervisors appointed Jim Devlin to fill a vacancy on the township board.
Devlin, 73, will fill the unexpired term of Supervisors’ Chairman Bob Seibert.
Seibert, who had two years left on his six-year term, decided to run for the seat vacated by Patricia Janoski, who retired from the board last year. He was unopposed and won the full six-year term.
At the supervisors’ December meeting, Seibert submitted a letter of resignation for his original seat effective Jan. 6, the date of the supervisors’ reorganization meeting. He was sworn in to his new seat at that meeting.
Seibert said Devlin was one of two residents who expressed interest in the unexpired term, which ends in December 2021.
He said the supervisors chose Devlin, a retired Westinghouse employee, in part because of his long record of service to the township.
Devlin said he has been a member of the Harmar Water Authority for 24 years, spent eight years on the community’s planning commission and was about to start the final year of a current four-year term on the township’s zoning hearing board.
He was sworn in at the supervisors’ Jan. 16 meeting. His letter of resignation from the zoning hearing board also was accepted at that meeting.
Seibert said Devlin was required to resign from the zoning hearing board because of potential conflicts he could face as a township supervisor. He said Devlin is able to retain his seat on the water authority.
