Playgrounds are getting an upgrade at Harrison Hills Park.

The Allegheny County-owned facility in Harrison will see several projects this year, including new walkways, play equipment with safety surfaces, landscaping, signs and items to help with accessibility.

Harrison Hills encompasses more than 500 acres of woods, streams, waterfalls and ponds. The park hosts a variety of environmental programs, such as the upcoming Guided Hike with Park Rangers on Feb. 7.

The county on Monday was awarded $250,000 for the work through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Funds were included in a nearly $82 million investment by the state to support projects in 58 counties.

Others to receive money include Ford City, which will get $237,500 for development of Malec Memorial Park.

Work there will include construction of a basketball court, pavilion, walkway, parking area and stormwater management measures. The site will also get new playground equipment with safety surfaces and fencing.
