Harrison juveniles charged with using stolen pistol to fire shots near Heights Plaza
Two boys from Harrison are facing charges after shots were fired early Friday near Heights Plaza.
Police responded just before 2 a.m. after several reports of suspicious activity near Community Supermarket, off Freeport Road. They found two children, 11 and 14, fleeing the area and running toward the Sheldon Park housing complex.
Officers, assisted by Tarentum police, were able to detain both boys in Sheldon Park.
Harrison Chief Brian Turack said officers found a 9 mm pistol with an attached green laser nearby. The pistol was confirmed to have been reported stolen from McKeesport, Turack said.
The juveniles were taken into custody and face charges of reckless endangerment, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor and curfew violation.
Harrison has a curfew ordinance that requires juveniles to be inside by midnight.
Turack said the apprehension was largely assisted by diligent residents.
“We would like to thank the residents who reported the incident to 911,” he said.
