The shuttered Rite Aid in Harrison is on the market for $1.75 million.

It was among more than 70 Rite Aid pharmacies across the Pittsburgh area to close this summer amid company bankruptcy and restructuring.

Other Rite Aid stores that closed locally include one on Oregon Drive in Lower Burrell, East Pittsburgh Street in Greensburg and one near Frankstown and Saltsburg roads in Penn Hills.

The closings have left substantial vacancies in municipal business corridors.

“It is a good building in an excellent location,” Harrison Township Manager Amy Rockwell said. “I would expect it to be attractive to a new business or a local business that wants to expand.”

The store at 1529 Freeport Road is prominently on the corner of Freeport Road and Montana Avenue, along the township’s main business district.

According to Allegheny County real estate records, the building is assessed at $1.57 million.

Built in 2000, the 11,750-square-foot, one-story building has a drive-thru window and 75 parking spaces, according to a listing on Loopnet.

Rite Aid stores are owned by a variety of entities, from private companies to limited-liability corporations to international banks such as Wells Fargo. A large number of stores statewide are owned by a company called Rite Aid of Pennsylvania.

Rite Aid representatives did not return TribLive calls seeking comment.

Some older Rite Aids that closed previously have been redeveloped, including the former store in New Kensington, which closed its doors in 2023 and is home to a Phantom Fireworks store.

The Tarentum Rite Aid that closed years ago was donated to a local church, Abundant Joy Fellowship. Leaders there said they have plans for community space inside the building on Corbet Street.
