Harrison is seeking bids to tear down two vacant, dilapidated houses in the township.

The houses, both two-stories, are located at 1525 Union Ave. and 2602 Monroe St.

The township has previously planned to take down a third house, at 1204 Cambridge St. It was removed from the project after an inspection found it was not in bad enough structural condition to be condemned and could be repaired, commissioners said.

The township anticipates the work to cost $22,000. In addition to demolition, it includes asbestos abatement of the Union Avenue property and rodent extermination before demolition. The township is paying for this work from its own funds.

The township’s engineering firm, NIRA Consulting Engineers, is accepting bids until 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at its offices at 950 Fifth Ave. in Coraopolis, after which bids will be opened publicly and read aloud. Bid documents can be examined at NIRA Consulting Engineers or at the township office, 1 Municipal Drive.

Commissioners could vote to award a contract when they meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 25, Commissioner Bill Heasley said.

Once a contract is awarded, Heasley said the township hopes to see the houses torn down as quickly as possible and before the end of the year.
