Help wanted: West Leechburg seeks new part-time borough secretary; no takers so far

The West Leechburg Borough Building.

West Leechburg Borough is seeking a new part-time secretary and treasurer.

Pat Grantz, who held the position for 43 years, died earlier this month, leaving what Mayor Jim Gallucci said are “big shoes to fill.”

Councilwoman Marcia Cole has volunteered her time to serve as interim secretary until the position is filled.

The deadline to apply is March 1.

“I want to fill this position as soon as possible so we can get back on track,” Gallucci said.

The position was initially advertised Feb. 3 on the borough Facebook page but, as of Tuesday, nobody had applied for the job, Cole said.

“This job would be great for a stay-at-home mom or retired person,” Cole said. “We are willing to work with the person with their schedule and will be flexible.”

Cole said the position requires about 20 hours per week, and the hourly rate is negotiable. Gallucci declined to provide an hourly wage range.

Those interested aren’t required to live in West Leechburg, but payroll experience is a must.

Additional job responsibilities include reporting, maintaining records and customer service.

Applicants should be experienced with computers and have an ability to learn specified programs.

“We are looking to update our computer systems,” Gallucci said. “Pat rarely used computers.”

Previous experience in municipal government is preferred but not required.

Council plans to make room in the borough building for a secretarial office.

“We are discussing that in council, and it will have to be determined,” Gallucci said. “Pat always worked from home.”
