Highland Tire will pay Highlands School District $19,000 to place advertising signs at district athletic facilities.
The school board unanimously approved the five-year advertising agreement at its meeting Monday.
Highland Tire is the first business to place advertising at the the district’s athletic facilities, business Manager Lori Byron said. The school board adopted a policy providing for such advertising in February 2017.
Under the policy, athletic facilities includes the interior and exterior of Golden Rams Stadium and the community center; any outdoor athletic fields, including backstops, dugouts and bleachers on district property; gymnasiums in district buildings; the high school swimming pool; and any scoreboards.
The five-year agreement with Highland Tire runs from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2026. An application to renew it for additional years is due on or before May 1, 2026.
Highland Tire President Brad Bonnett did not respond to a request for comment.
According to the agreement, Highland Tire will place two advertisement panels on the scoreboard at Golden Rams Stadium, and 4-by-9-foot panels on baseball and softball fences, the fence of Golden Rams stadium and at gymnasiums.
The Highlands Athletic Department will pay the cost to manufacture the signs, according to the agreement.
The agreement requires half of the $19,000 payment to be paid by the end of the month and the remainder to be paid when the scoreboard is installed. Byron did not respond to questions about how the district intends to spend the money.
Under the district’s policy, the signs will include a statement that it should not be construed as the district endorsing the product or service being advertised.
