Highlands accepting emails for vacant school board seat
Highlands School District will now accept applications for a vacant school board seat via email.
The district had previously specifically prohibited people from submitting application electronically.
The Region 2 seat became vacant when Misty Chybrzynski, former board president, resigned after moving out of the district. Region 2 covers Brackenridge and the Natrona section of Harrison.
Initially, the district said it was taking letters of interest by mail and hand delivery to the district office only.
The district has since updated a notice about the vacancy. It now states that letters of interest will be accepted by mail and email. In-person delivery is no longer listed as an option.
Under state order, the district is closed until March 27. All Highlands school buildings are closed to the public, and the administrative center is open for limited hours.
Letters are due by 12 p.m. March 23 to Superintendent Monique Mawhinney at PO Box 288, Natrona Heights, 15065 and by email to mmawhinney@goldenrams.com.
The district asks those sending letters by email to also leave a voicemail at 724-226-2400.
Applicants are required to have been a resident of Region 2 for at least one year. The person appointed will serve the balance of the term until December 2021.
The school board is scheduled to interview applicants and fill the vacancy at a special voting meeting at 6 p.m. March 30 in the library at Highlands High School.
