The fee for a Brackenridge church to hold its annual Easter egg hunt on Highlands School District property has been slashed by more than half.
The school district initially was going to charge Generations House of Worship $4,700 under its recently updated use-of-facilities policy. The fee included a $2,750 facility use fee, $750 maintenance fee and $600 each for personnel/custodian and security.
But when the board approved the church’s request at its meeting Monday night, the fee was down about 65 percent to $1,650.
At a Feb. 11 school board meeting attended by many church members, district officials said the fees would be less once the church filed paperwork indicating it was a nonprofit.
The $2,750 facility use fee was completely removed, and the personnel/custodian fee has been cut by half, to $300. The church is still being assessed a $750 maintenance fee and a $600 fee for security.
Generations House of Worship wants to use the stadium, gym, soccer field and parking lot at the district’s middle school for the April 20 event, which will include an outdoor egg hunt and indoor egg hunt for special-needs individuals and a community fair.
Nick Chybrzynski, founder and pastor of Generations House of Worship, said he was still “a little bummed” that the fees are now higher than they had been in past years, “but it will not hinder us from moving forward and reaching the community.
“We’re confident that there will be another great year for the community full of laughter, unity, and an incredible celebration all in celebration of Jesus life given for us — this is what Easter should be about anyway right,” he said.
Chybrzynski’s sister, Misty Chybrzynski, is a member of the school board.
