Highlands Middle School students will be learning remotely for at least Tuesday through Friday because of a “high number of covid cases,” according to correspondence from the school district to middle school families.

“During this time, our buildings and grounds staff will be cleaning classrooms, sanitizing and preparing to welcome students back on Sept. 13. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in person then,” Highlands Middle School Principal Kimberly Price wrote in an email to families.

The email did not say how many students or staff at the school had tested positive or how many were in quarantine. A covid dashboard on Highlands’ website said the district had 16 covid cases, including seven at the middle school, between Aug. 27 and Monday.

The district’s email said teachers would post schedules, assignments and Zooms in their Google classrooms, and that teachers would be available by email through the week. Administrators would be in the middle school building each day to answer any questions people might have, and families were told they also could call 724-226-2400 for more information.
