The Pittsburgh law firm Andrews & Price has been named the new solicitor for Highlands School District.

The firm replaces Weiss Burkardt Kramer effective Tuesday. Highlands didn’t disclose payment or other contract details.

School board members Bob Betts and Debbie Beale voted against the change during a meeting Monday that was held virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. They did not comment on why they opposed the move.

Highlands sought a new solicitor after Weiss Burkardt Kramer decided to withdraw from the district. The firm had been Highlands’ solicitor since 2006.

“Our firm appreciates the opportunity to serve the district and we wish the district well,” Ira Weiss said when reached for comment after the meeting.

Weiss Burkardt Kramer also collects delinquent property taxes for the district. The school board did not discuss whether that would continue. District spokeswoman Jennifer Goldberg said there has been no change to the tax collector agreement.
