The Highlands School Board unified in choosing new leadership Monday, in contrast to when the board last reorganized in December.

The nine-member board had to select a new president and vice president following the resignation of former President Misty Chybrzynski in March and the appointment of Nicole Kocon to replace her last week.

At a special meeting Monday, board Vice President Bobbie Neese was the only nominee for president, and she was unanimously approved.

The board then needed to replace Neese as vice president. Gene Witt, who was elected last year, was the only nominee and was approved unanimously.

The meeting was held virtually due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Chybrzynski had been named board president in December when the school board reorganized following the November election, which saw four new members elected to the board — Witt, Kristie Babinsack, Laura Butler and Kelli Canonge.

Chybrzynski had been chosen as president on a 6-3 vote, replacing Debbie Beale.

Beale had also been nominated for vice president; the seat went to Neese.
