Although the building and business are up for sale, the Hole in the Wall Gallery gift shop in Lower Burrell is still very much open, brimming with Halloween skulls and gift favorites such as colorful gem studded jewelry and a T-shirt trimmed in a pink tutu that says “I get my Sparkle from Mommy.”

The gallery and gift shop is almost 50 years old, and its owner is looking for a buyer for the business and the building.

“It has been a wonderful experience owning the store,” said Christine Dymkoski, who has been the owner for about 15 years. “The customers are an extension of my family.”

But family and the need for simplicity has caused Dymkoski to sell, though she wants the unique gift store to continue.

The pandemic temporarily halted operations earlier in the year for nonessential businesses such as the gift shop. Customers can now go inside the store or receive curbside service.

“When covid hit, it was a reality check,” Dymkoski said. “This was my dream.”

And dreamy the store still is with its eclectic and fun selection of gifts, statuary and even gourmet chocolate bonbons.

The store has a loyal following, Dymkoski said.

Daughter Casey Dymkoski, store manager, noted “people come here more so now to buy gifts and to relax and enjoy the scenery.”

Lower Burrell officials say they would like to see the Hole in the Wall continue.

“I’d love to see someone buy the business,” said Mayor John Andrejcik, who met with Dymkoski at the beginning of the pandemic to try to help local businesses. “That kind of business is a thread in our community.”

Councilman Robert Hamilton said: “It’s nice to have shopping diversity in Lower Burrell and a unique shop for people to explore their creative side. It would be a shame to lose a business that has been a foothold in the city for nearly as long as the city has been incorporated.”
