Police accused a homeless man of stealing about 30 pieces of mostly gold jewelry from a residence along Tarentum’s Third Avenue last month.

Mark Bachman, 51, was arraigned Monday night.

Police say Bachman once lived near the house that was burglarized.

Officers found that someone had broken a basement window and then pushed through a basement door to enter the house.

In addition to the jewelry, the burglar is accused of taking the resident’s silverware.

According to an affidavit, a precious metals sales website maintained by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office shows that on Oct. 8, Bachman sold 28 pieces of gold jewelry to Gold-N-Gals in Harrison for about $750.

The affidavit states a Tarentum detective showed photos of the sold items to the burglary victim and she recognized the items as hers.

The victim told police she bought some of the jewelry in Las Vegas and that one of the rings has her initials inside.

In addition, Bachman is accused of selling two rings the victim says belong to her to Seita’s Jewelry in Tarentum, on Oct. 21 for $53.36.

Some of the jewelry was found in the house that Bachman formerly used as a residence and which he allegedly visited from time to time.

Bachman was arraigned Monday night and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail Tuesday in lieu of $10,000 bond pending a Nov. 13 preliminary hearing before District Judge Carolyn Bengel.
