The sheriff’s sale of a historic restaurant, bar and hotel in Saxonburg has been postponed.

Hotel Saxonburg at 220 W. Main St. was expected to go up for public auction Jan. 16.

The sale has been bumped to 11 a.m. May 15, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.

It is unclear why the sale was postponed.

Messages to the sheriff’s office and to the Erie-based law firm MacDonald, Illig, Jones & Britton LLP, the attorney listed on the sale listing, Friday evening were not immediately returned.

The historic building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It welcomed patrons for 193 years.

The sheriff’s office conducts the sales only via online bidding.

Interested bidders must register for the sale online at butler.pa.realforeclosure.com.

According to Butler County court records, Hotel Saxonburg owners Annette Gervais and Lee Uncapher defaulted on loans of $600,000 and $50,000 from Northwest Bank.

Total judgment on the sale listing is about $701,000.

Uncapher and Gervais bought the property under a company name of Two20 LLC for $625,000 from previous owner Judy Ferree.

The business closed abruptly after the owners posted the news in a social media post last March.

In the post, management said the closure was due to health issues, rising costs of food and the growing expenses associated with maintaining the business.
