Hunter dies after fall from tree stand in Washington Township

A hunter died after falling from a tree stand Friday in Washington Township, authorities said.

Kent David Horrell, 64, died early Friday afternoon, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said Saturday.

Horrell was a resident of Washington Township. He died at AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, according to his obituary from the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home.

According to Westmoreland County 911, Horrell was hunting when he fell out of a tree stand in the area of the 1800 block of Route 380.

Horrell died about an hour after the incident. He suffered a blunt impact injury to his head, the medical examiner said.

Washington Township police could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to his obituary, Horrell was a Kiski Area graduate who had worked in carpentry and roofing and as an electrician until retiring in 2015. He was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Kiski Township.

Visitation is scheduled for 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home, 100 Owens View Ave., Kiski Township. A Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 109 Owens View Ave. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
