Emergency crews from Freeport EMS and other agencies used a side-by-side to bring an injured hunter to a waiting medical helicopter in North Buffalo on Saturday.

Emergency crews used a side-by-side and then a helicopter to extract a hunter from a remote section of woods in North Buffalo early Saturday after the hunter suffered a fall from a tree stand.

Jamison Hughes, EMS chief at Freeport Fire-EMS, said crews were dispatched to the scene just before 7 a.m. on the opening day of firearm deer season in Pennsylvania.

The hunter had suffered traumatic injuries from the fall.

The rough terrain required the use of a utility terrain vehicle to extract the person to a waiting life-flight.

“It’s an unfortunate incident that happens in a hunting community,” Hughes said.

On Sunday afternoon, he said the hunter is in stable condition.

The response, which involved South Buffalo VFD and other local first responders, was a “great collaboration” for a “successful extraction,” Hughes said.
