Incumbent, newcomer secure 2 Harmar supervisors' seats
An incumbent and newcomer will be taking seats as Harmar Township supervisors.
Newcomer Sam Boak, a Democrat, came out on top with 29.18% of the vote, according to unofficial results from the Allegheny County Board of Elections. He was followed by incumbent Harry Lenhart, also a Democrat, with 27.57%.
First-time candidate Neal Farkas, a Republican, took 22.17% of the vote. Although incumbent Republican Bob Seibert dropped out of the race, he remained on the ballot and received 20.79% of the vote.
Boak, 45, already has a presence in the community. He has held several positions within the township, including code enforcement officer, zoning officer, zoning hearing board member and assistant emergency director. He also volunteers for the Allegheny Valley Volunteer Fire Company.
Boak thanked those who supported them and credited getting his message out with helping him accomplish his victory.
“I am just very grateful to the people of Harmar for choosing to let me continue to serve them,” he said.
Lenhart, 78, expressed gratitude at being reelected and was impressed by the voter turnout.
“It shows the civic consciousness of the people and implies they’re thoughtful in these local races,” Lenhart said.
Lenhart was first elected in 2017. His focus remains the same as he looks to continue the work being done for the township. He wants to focus on improving the township with work on roads and the sewage system while keeping taxes low.
“We will continue to do whatever we can to move forward in the township. We have some concrete things we want to accomplish,” he said.
