Tarentum Councilwoman Erika Josefoski has announced her resignation.

Josefoski, 36, is one of two council members representing the borough’s 1st Ward; the other is Lou Ann Homa. The seven-member council has two members from each of three wards plus one at-large member.

Josefoski said she has verbally informed the borough of her intention to resign effective Dec. 31. Council is expected to vote to accept it on Dec. 15, when council is meeting to adopt the borough’s 2021 budget.

“With Highlands moving to the full virtual learning model, and me trying to juggle homeschooling with my multiple jobs, it’s just too much for me to also try to set aside time for council, and Tarentum needs and deserves a council member who has more time to offer,” she said. “I’m looking to move somewhere closer to my jobs, it’d just be easier for me as a single mom.

“It makes me really sad, but I believe it’s what’s best for my family,” she said.

A former council president, Josefoski, a Democrat, was most recently elected to a four-year term in 2019, defeating Republican challenger Thomas Grates Jr.

She was first appointed to council in 2015 and elected to her first term in that year’s election.

The borough will need to make an appointment to fill the vacant seat.
