A Westmoreland County jury has convicted a Hyde Park man of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

Jurors deliberated more than two hours late Wednesday before returning guilty verdicts against 40-year-old Larry Lee Redmond on felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, child endangerment and corruption of minors and a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault.

Redmond did not testify during the two-day trial and the defense did not call any witnesses. Redmond’s attorney, assistant public defender Michael J. Garofalo, declined to comment.

Prosecutors said Redmond had sexual contact with the teenage girl on two occasions in 2015. The victim came forward with the allegations a year later.

Redmond has been in jail since his $5,000 bond was revoked in 2017. He will remain in custody until he is sentenced in three months by county Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio.

Redmond’s trial had been delayed for more than a year after Redmond’s defense unsuccessfully appealed Bilik-DeFazio’s ruling that rejected a defense claim that the charges should be dismissed because of a lack of evidence. The state’s Superior Court denied the appeal, saying the defense filed it too late.
