Kiski Area makes online student registration permanent, kindergarten open house sign-up scrapped
Kiski Area School District is offering an easier option for registering new students.
Online student registration was added last month to the district website in response to covid-19 restrictions. That allows a parent or guardian the option of registering a student digitally instead of requiring a traditional in-person campus visit.
Online kindergarten registration is open for the 2021-22 school year.
John Tedorski, director of technology services and instruction, said the online option is here to stay.
“Registration is ongoing, and we’d like to see parents and guardians do this as soon as possible,” Tedorski said. “This will continue beyond covid.”
Tedorski said the district previously offered a three-day mini open house kindergarten registration for families and prospective students.
The open houses were canceled this year and will not return.
Kiski Area administrative employee Michelle Barclay said there are 208 kindergartners combined enrolled for the 2020-21 school year at the North, South and East Primary elementary schools.
Barclay said kindergarten enrollment is about half of what the district normally sees in April, and she’s hoping to get the word out to district families about the new online registration procedure.
Student who are 5 by Sept. 1 are eligible to enroll in kindergarten.
Incoming students will need these documents to register: birth certificate, immunization record and two proofs of parent/guardian residency.
The documents may be scanned or uploaded online during the online registration process.
In-person registration still available
In-person registration still is available for those without access to the internet from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the district administrative office at 250 Hyde Park Road in Allegheny Township.
