A new coffee-themed social is brewing in the Kiski Area School District.

Kiski Area Superintendent Misty Slavic will host her inaugural “Coffee Chat With the Superintendent” on Friday, June 10.

The free gathering kicks off at 9 a.m. All residents of the district are invited to attend.

Participants should register online at bit.ly/38NqMsX, as space is limited.

For Slavic, the coffee social is welcome after years of pandemic restrictions.

“When I started at KASD, covid precautions were in place, and I wasn’t able to interact with the community as I would have liked,” Slavic said. “Now that the restrictions have lifted, I want to be more involved with the district families and organizations.”

Slavic said guests can expect a relaxed atmosphere.

The event will be held at G&G Restaurant, located at 149 Columbia Ave. in Vandergrift.

Kiski Area Upper Elementary Principal Brian Swartzlander praised the new initiative.

“From the moment she arrived at Kiski Area, Dr. Slavic’s commitment to building positive relationships was evident,” Swartzlander said. “I believe this is a great step in reaching out to the community and creating partnerships with all stakeholders for the benefit of our students.”

For Slavic, the goal is to focus on positive conversations.

“We all have a common goal to support our students and staff,” she said, “so this opportunity is another way of us working together to achieve it.”

Slavic said she borrowed the idea from other superintendents.

“I worked in other districts where superintendents offered similar meetings,” she said. “The end result was always a more informed community and district.”
