The Kiski Township manager’s position is in limbo.
Supervisors Wednesday afternoon accepted the resignation of Donna Piper, hired as the township’s first manager on Sept. 24, 2018.
Supervisors Chairman Mike Bash said he didn’t know how the position will be filled. Piper had been paid $75,000 per year.
The manager’s position was created in the summer of 2018 when township officials determined the increased workload and a range of responsibilities shared by a secretary and supervisors necessitated creating the job.
The supervisors felt they needed someone with deeper knowledge of securing grants, coordinating public works projects and dealing with staff, engineers, attorneys, government officials and the public.
Piper’s resignation “was purely voluntary on her part,” Bash said.
Supervisors also promoted part-time township secretary/treasurer Sherry Tamski to full time by a 4-0 vote.
Tamski started with the township last May.
Her hourly wage is being negotiated.
Supervisors also plan to fill a vacancy on its board on February 5.
When long-time supervisors Jack Wilmot stepped down last fall, he was replaced by Chuck Rodnicki.
Rodnicki, however, was elected to a four-year term as supervisor on Nov. 5. He then resigned the seat replacing Wilmot, necessitating the appointment of a new supervisor next week.
The new appointee’s term will last until Dec. 31, 2021.
The township’s vacancy board will meet at 5 p.m. Feb. 5 and is expected to make a recommendation for the vacant supervisors seat that will be acted upon at a 6 p.m. supervisors meeting.
