Kiski Township police said they arrested a man suspected of assault Sunday night on Florida Avenue.

Police were called to a residence shortly after 8:30 p.m. for a report of a domestic assault. Officers said Shawn Haidze, 49, had attempted to choke a female victim and later tried to cut her with a steak knife.

Police said the woman was able to escape after a struggle and run to the police department.

Haidze was taken into custody, and police said they plan to charge him with strangulation, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault.

Police said he was taken to the Armstrong County Jail to await arraignment before District Judge James Andring.
