Girl's fall from Leechburg Bridge under investigation, officials say
Leechburg officials said Tuesday they’re still investigating after a girl fell from the Leechburg Bridge on Monday night.
First responders were dispatched to the Leechburg Bridge at around 7:30 p.m. for a juvenile who had fallen from the bridge and onto the shoreline along the Kiski River. It’s unclear at this time what exactly happened, according to Leechburg police Chief Jason Schaeffer.
“From what I understand, they rescued the female, and she was Life-Flighted,” Schaeffer said.
Schaeffer said the girl was not with other people when she fell.
He was unsure of her condition Tuesday morning.
Mayor Doreen Smeal said issues on the bridge are rare.
“I’ve lived in Leechburg all my life, and there’s rarely occurrences like this on this bridge,” Smeal said. “It was a shock when I heard that last night.”
Smeal said she is still trying to figure out the facts and circumstances of what happened.
“If we find out this is something we have to correct, we’ll take action from there,” Smeal said.
