Residents can get a good laugh on Saturday night while helping to support a local library and organization.

The Leechburg Public Library and Leechburg Area Community Association are holding a comedy night on Saturday at the Marconi Club. The 90-minute show is for ages 21 and older. There will be a cash bar. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own snacks.

“We were trying to come up with a fundraiser that was different and gets people out and about,” said Doreen Smeal, library board treasurer and LACA president.

Local comedian Shaun Blackham will perform. The Delmont resident has been doing comedy since 1989, when he did his first standup at the Funny Bone in Station Square, Pittsburgh.

He has opened for acts ranging from Adam Sandler to Tracy Morgan to Drew Carey.

“I always do comedy just for the fact because there is pure enjoyment out of making people laugh,” Blackham said.

Fellow local comedian David Michael will be opening for Blackham.

Blackham does 15 to 20 fundraising shows a year. In November, he and Michael performed at Vandergrift’s Casino Theatre as a fundraiser for the historic institution.

For more information, call the library at 724-236-0080.

Proceeds from tickets will be used to help upgrade the library and fund community projects for LACA.
