Leechburg talent show to raise money for spring musical
The Leechburg Drama Club is hoping its second annual talent show fundraiser Friday is at least as successful as last year’s inaugural event, which raised $4,000 to help put on a high school musical.
Regardless, those attending Friday’s event are going to get a good show, according to Leechburg Area musical director Alyssa Walls said.
“So many clubs and teams sell things for fundraisers that our kids and community can’t tell one from the other,” Walls said. “We wanted to stand out and have a one-day event to show the community the talent they are supporting with their donations.”
More than 20 acts featuring students in kindergarten through 12th grade are scheduled to perform. The show will feature dancing, singing, comedy and musical performances, all under three minutes each.
Proceeds will benefit the 2020 high school musical production of “Godspell.”
The minimum suggested donation is $5.
Last year’s event raised four times more than the $1,000 fundraising goal to support the musical production “Anything Goes.”
The drama club put the money it raised last year toward buying new lighting for the auditorium and costumes, Walls said.
“The feedback from last year’s talent show was overwhelmingly positive,” Walls said. “So many people said they preferred it over buying things. Instead, they got an experience.”
