Mingle on Market will kick off at 4 p.m. Thursday along Market Street in Leechburg.

The Leechburg Area Community Association is organizing a new monthly communitywide event dubbed Mingle on Market.

The event will run every second Thursday along Market Street in Leechburg. It will feature a farmers market from 4 to 8 p.m. and food and live music from 6 to 8 p.m. Businesses along the strip will participate, selling food including street tacos from the Portage Inn and offering sidewalk sales, including macron plant holders from Leechburg Public Library.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs to enjoy the live music.

Doreen Smeal, president of LACA, said the association had been thinking about putting on such an event for a while to bring life back to the community.

“There was a time people would be packing the streets, and this is just a way to bring people back out on a Thursday night,” she said.

Smeal hopes the event will get bigger each month.

LACA secretary and treasurer Dan Logero said he is excited about the event and hopes it will serve as a steppingstone to bringing more people to downtown Leechburg.

He said he will be happy if 50 to 100 people show up.

“I am really hoping it will be a good turnout,” he said. “The first time might not be the best representation, but it takes awhile to build.”

Logero said the event is in need of volunteers and encourages anyone interested to reach out through the Leechburg Area Community Association’s Facebook page or contact Smeal at doreen.smeal@gmail.com.
