A scenic eatery in Allegheny Township has closed for the summer and fall season.

Lily’s, the renovated restaurant at River Forest Country Club overlooking the golf course, announced the closing on social media last week.

Referring to the decision to close as “tough” in a Facebook post, Lily’s blamed the closure on many unsuccessful attempts to find adequate staffing.

“We tried so hard to open,” said Samantha Swisshelm, River Forest Country Club employee. “It was heartbreaking and we are upset that we didn’t have staffing.”

At least six bartenders and servers are required to run Lily’s, Swisshelm said.

“We couldn’t even get one person to come in for an interview,” she said.

The seasonal restaurant typically closes around November and reopens in March.

“A majority of our diners are golfers and club members but we’ve always been open to the public for dining,” Swisshelm said.

The restaurant features a private party room, which will still be available for bookings.

The restaurant was named after co-owners Jamy and Robert Rankin’s pug, Lily.

Located at 130 Club House Drive, the eatery serving American fare was open to the public.

Lily’s is still booking private parties of 50 or more.

The private banquet room is popular for weddings, bridal showers, golf outings, birthday, retirement and graduation parties.

In a social media post on June 16, Lily’s announced they were postponing their scheduled June 22 opening, but that never happened due to inadequate staffing.

The Trib previously reported about Lily’s when new owners purchased the restaurant and bar in 2019.

Former Buffalo Township resident Verne Bergstrom recently moved to Indiana Township and said the Alle-Kiski Valley has few eateries offering outdoor dining.

“It’s sad to hear of another restaurant in the area closing. I know a lot are struggling with staffing issues and they can’t accommodate being open at full capacity,” Bergstrom said.

Swisshelm said the silver lining is that more golfers are playing and the restaurant will be able to withstand the closure financially.

“The golf course hasn’t slowed down and golf is our big seller. We miss our regular customers and we’re hopeful to reopen Lily’s completely next spring.”
