The side of the Pittsburgh Brewing Co. building in East Deer facing the Allegheny River will soon be home to an amphitheater.

Pennsylvania’s Liquor Control Board has granted East Deer’s request for the township to enforce its own noise ordinance, as a concert venue at Pittsburgh Brewing Co. plans to open next summer.

East Deer established its own noise ordinance in June and sought the exemption from the LCB because of Pittsburgh Brewing’s plans to build an outdoor amphitheater to host live concerts.

The LCB held a hearing Sept. 6, and the board ratified its decision last week.

“Typically, the board defers to the wishes of a local municipality that wants to take over enforcement of the parts of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code concerning noise,” LCB spokesman Shawn Kelly said.

Brewery officials said previously that the concert venue would be behind the property facing the Allegheny River, to the right of the distillery.

“Pittsburgh Brewing plans to happily abide to the terms of ordinance from the East Deer community regarding the noise exemption hearing from the Liquor Control Board,” the brewery said in a statement.

“We do not see this having any negative effects on the brewery and our public events within the future. Plans for an amphitheater are moving along, and we plan on having our first concert in June 2024.”

Brewery officials testified during the hearing that the company has completed noise tests that comply with the township’s noise ordinance. The Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department, which covers East Deer, said the police force would be able to enforce the ordinance without it causing a burden and that since the township adopted the ordinance this summer, there have not been any noise complaints.

East Deer Commissioner Tony Taliani did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
