Logans Ferry Road remained closed at Entrance Drive in Plum on Monday, Sept. 19. Work to repair a landslide on Logans Ferry between Entrance Drive and Columbia Road is expected to be completed by Friday, a PennDOT spokesman said.

Thousands of drivers who regularly use Logans Ferry Road in Plum have another reason to look forward to Friday.

The stretch of Logans Ferry between Entrance Drive and Columbia Road, near New Kensington, which has been closed since Aug. 2, is anticipated to reopen Friday, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said Monday.

Plum Contracting is expecting its work to repair a landslide to be completed by then, Cowan said. A time for the reopening was not provided.

“They tell me that once they reopen the road, that will be the end of the project,” Cowan said. “There shouldn’t be any additional restrictions.”

The road is reopening early. It originally was expected to be closed into mid-October.

More than 11,000 vehicles travel the half-mile section of Logans Ferry Road every day. The closing sent cars on a posted detour that’s about 8 miles long.

As part of the detour, PennDOT placed temporary traffic signals at the intersection of Old Leechburg and Greensburg roads. When Logans Ferry reopens, those signals will be removed, Cowan said.

Dale Fleming, owner of Fleming’s Service & Parts on Logans Ferry at Entrance Drive, said he was very happy to hear the road is expected to reopen soon.

“It’s been a little rough,” he said. “A lot of my people have dropped their vehicles off overnight, paid by credit card over the phone and picked them up the next day.”
