Lower Burrell considers $13k in additional charges for city hall renovation
Lower Burrell Council is considering about $13,600 in additional charges for city hall’s $3.2 million renovation.
The renovation project started last May. It includes a new public works building, more space for police and moving the tax office back to city hall.
Council will vote on the additional charges at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at city hall, 115 Schreiber St.
City Administrator Amy Rockwell reviewed the charges with council on Monday.
Three of the four change orders resulted from unforeseen issues that weren’t included in the original project design, according to Rockwell.
The extra work will:
• Increase the height of a partition in the police station.
• Change lock sets.
• Demolish an existing wall in the electrical room that interfered with a new electrical panel.
City officials added a fourth change intended to increase building security, including a badge system with employee access cards and installation of two surveillance cameras. Also, police are asking for telecommunications wiring to create a multi-function training space.
The new public works building is complete and contractors are working on converting the former public works space for the new city police station. Work should be complete by spring, according to Rockwell.
