A Lower Burrell man died Monday after his Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a sedan in the city.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. The motorcycle rider, William Hartman, 20, died about an hour and a half later, according to a report from the Westmoreland County Coroner’s office.

The report said Hartman was riding alone west on Route 56 when a Subaru Legacy entered the intersection with Wildlife Lodge Road and hit his motorcycle, separating him from his vehicle upon impact.

He was not wearing a helmet, the report noted. Hartman’s cause and manner of death were listed as pending.

There is no word on whether the sedan driver suffered any injuries.

Lower Burrell police are leading the investigation.

State police spokesman Clifford Greenfield said a crash reconstruction unit was sent to the scene.

Lower Burrell Chief John Marhefka said Tuesday morning the crash is “still under investigation.”
