These are some of the items that will be up for auction at the annual Fox Chapel Garden Club Glitter & Glow fundraiser at the Fox Chapel Golf Club Dec. 7.

An annual Fox Chapel Garden Club fundraiser will soon make its return to a familiar location.

After a year outside in the cold due to covid-19 pandemic protocols, Glitter & Glow comes back to the Fox Chapel Golf Club on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The fundraiser was canceled in 2020 due to covid. The garden club moved things outside last December to Aspinwall Riverfront Park for what it called Glitter, Shiver and Glow.

Event co-chair Melissa Johnson said members are very happy to be back indoors this time around.

“The purpose of the event is fundraising to give back to our Fox Chapel community,” she said. “It’s become so popular and so beloved by members that it grew into the fundraiser that it is today.”

People are encouraged to enjoy a sip, a nibble and shop for some fresh arrangements and various auction items at the gold club, 426 Fox Chapel Road.

There will be light refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

More than 200 fresh greenery arrangements designed by garden club members will be for sale including stylish vessels with firs, cedars, berries and unique woodland offerings.

Other activities include a silent auction of handmade items including a British Santa complete with corgis and tea, a vintage ornament topiary tree and other holiday-inspired crafts.

“Over the course of the year, ladies start to curate, collecting containers and vessels they use for their arrangements and sourcing everything from ribbons to other adornments on the arrangements,” Johnson said. “We have a workshop at one of the member’s homes and work for several days curating arrangements. Then we put them out for sale at the event.

”We have ladies that are exceptionally talented and really put a lot of effort into the design that they create.”

Johnson said they hope to have about 200 to 250 people attend. She declined to disclose how much money might be raised or what was raised in previous events.

Glitter and Glow has been around for about two decades and every garden club member participates in some fashion.

Which nonprofit will benefit?

The club is taking requests from nonprofits to receive this year’s funds.

Previous benefactors include Hardie Valley Park, Allegheny Rivertrail Park, Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Cooper Siegel Library - Fritz’s Garden, and the Fox Chapel Garden Club Scholarship.

Organizations that wish to make requests can contact the garden club through its website, foxchapelgardenclub.org.
