A New Kensington man faces charges after police said he started a fight early Tuesday at a North Apollo bar and then fought with officers who responded.

Kiski Township police said they arrived at the R Bar on 16th Street to see Nicholas Jack, 25, throwing punches at people who were pushing him out of the bar just after 1:30 a.m. Police said they later determined that Jack had started a fight inside the bar.

Jack tried to punch a responding officer who approached him outside the bar and then ran back inside after the officer unsuccessfully tried to subdue him with a Taser, police said.

Jack again tried to fight with the officer, but the officer took him into custody after shooting him with a Taser a second time, according to police.

Police said that while Jack was in custody, he threatened officers and tried to spit in their faces. Later, while in a cruiser, he tried to break out the rear window by banging his head against it, police said.

Jack was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and taken to Armstrong County Jail after failing to post $25,000 bond, according to court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29.
