Man arrested for allegedly assaulting police in Frazer hotel

Police say a man assaulted several state police troopers when they responded to a call Sunday about a possible stabbing in Frazer.

Around 6 a.m., police spoke with Arnol Yobany Maldonado-Martinez, who told them an unknown man threatened him with a knife in his room at the SpringHill Suites on Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard.

Maldonado-Martinez showed police a video that, according to an affidavit filed by police, shows Darwin Noel Gonzalez Meza, 28, becoming “aggressive” and appearing to strike Maldonado-Martinez’s arm.

When police entered the victim’s room, they found Gonzalez Meza asleep on a couch and identified themselves as police as they tried to wake him, according to the complaint.

Upon waking, police say, Gonzalez Meza became “aggressive” and tried to swing at a trooper. While police attempted to handcuff him, Gonzalez Meza kneed one trooper in the groin and repeatedly pulled the arm of another, according to the complaint.

In his mugshot, Gonzalez Meza appears to have a swollen eye and lacerations on his face. Police did not respond to inquiries about the cause of those injuries.

According to the complaint, police also identified the knife allegedly used to threaten Maldonado-Martinez as a red box cutter.

Gonzalez Meza is charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of terroristic threats, misdemeanor simple assault and resisting arrest as well as summary harassment charges.

He was unable to post bond, according to court documents, and remains in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh.

Gonzalez Meza’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2.
