Man struck by car in New Kensington hospitalized
A man hit by a car Tuesday on Tarentum Bridge Road in New Kensington apparently stepped into the road before the crash, said police Chief Bob Deringer.
“No charges will be filed against the driver at this time,” Deringer said Wednesday, but that the investigation is continuing.
Deringer said the 63-year-old man that was hit is from New Kensington. The driver was a 43-year-old man from Arnold. No names were released.
The incident happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the area of Carl Avenue and O’Reilly Auto Parts, city fire Chief Ed Saliba said.
“He took a heck of a hit,” Saliba said.
A nurse, a nurse practitioner and a paramedic on their way home from Allegheny Valley Hospital were flagged down by a motorist. They administered first aid until other first responders arrived, Saliba said.
The man suffered head and neck injuries, Saliba said.
Deringer said the man was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was in stable condition.
