Man taken to hospital after vehicle rollover in West Deer
A man was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital Wednesday after he fell asleep while driving and crashed into a utility pole in West Deer, according to police.
Police Chief Jon Lape said emergency responders were called to the single-vehicle crash on Middle Road near Steeplechase Circle shortly before 6:30 p.m.
According to the chief, the sole occupant of the vehicle, Raymond Fischer, 38, of West Deer, was driving north on Middle Road toward Route 910 when it appears that he fell asleep at the wheel.
Lape said the vehicle went off the road and up an embankment before crashing into a utility pole and rolling over. Fischer had to be cut from the vehicle.

Lape said Fischer was conscious and alert, and was able to tell firefighters and paramedics what happened.
Paramedics took Fischer to UPMC Presbyterian to be evaluated, but he did not appear to have physical injuries, Lape said.
The road was closed for about three hours because of downed wires, the chief said. The vehicle was towed, but Lape could not say how badly it was damaged.
The crash remains under investigation. The chief was unable to say if any charges would be filed against Fischer.
