Classes at Martin Elementary School in New Kensington were canceled Friday because of a power outage.

A district official said the power outage was the result of downed lines caused when a vehicle struck a utility pole early Friday morning.

The school is along Seventh Street in New Kensington.

An email was sent to notify parents about the closure.

Faculty and staff at the school for preschool and kindergarten students were told to report to the H.D. Berkey Elementary School in Arnold for the day.

All other district buildings are operating on a their regular schedule.
